Gaining a switched live

Featured Replies

Hi there

Hopefully an easy one. Has anybody used the devices that 'learn' the difference on the electrical system when the engine is running and not to provide a switched live effectively and are they any good? I see Halfords sell them for 20 quid.

If so would piggybacking on the 12v socket be a suitable place to attach it to avoid any Canbus errors. I want it for my DAB Highway unit that I want to mount in the glovebox.

Thanks in advance

Not tried one of those, but instead got my live from taking a new feed from the fusebox. This is it in my Octy which should be similar (in concept if not in fuse box layout)

fuse box switched positive

Which Highway are you fitting BTW? I hope to finally get my 300Di in tomorrow

Hi Gyp

Thanks for the response.

Just the standard Highway, ended up getting a 'spur fuse' and attaching to the rear wiper location in the fuse box as that is only live when the key is in the ignition. All seems to be working fine.

I have routed it to the glovebox and the aerial is fed down the passenger side a-pillar so all the wires are hidden. It is running fine off the fm transmission but i really want to hook it up to the aux in socket in the Jumbo box. I have managed to get the cable to below the gearstick but can't get any more trim off.

More fiddling in the dark needed :giggle:

You're doing better than me... as I don't have an aux in, I'm having to connect the 300Di up to the aerials (the 300Di connects in to the aerial lead rather than just transmitting withing the car) but so far have not managed to get the right cables :(

With any luck, this weekend should see it done. Maybe.

Getting the trim off has required quite a bit of bravery, but it is possible!

Sounds like a right PITA!

Might wait 'till the weekend myself before attacking the trim.
