My Car Windows Opened Themselves - I Think

Featured Replies

Hi, new member here looking for advice. A couple of months ago, I came out of the house and found my car had all the windows wide open. It worried me at the time, but I forgot about it after a few days. The car was locked, as I always lock it when I'm not with it....we had been shopping earlier and it was left in the car port, so I guess no-one could see that the windows were open. Does anyone have any idea how this can happen?

Hello and welcome, suppose there may be a few reasons, although you didn't unknowingly have the key in such a way that the unlock button was held down, as this will lower all the windows once doors are unlocked.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello and welcome, suppose there may be a few reasons, although you didn't unknowingly have the key in such a way that the unlock button was held down, as this will lower all the windows once doors are unlocked.

This is the most common cause of windows opening themselves, key in pocket and unlock button pressed and held for a second or two, car unlocks and all windows open. Now because no door has been opened the car will relock the doors, so when you come out in the morning the windows are open and the car is locked.

Give it a go yourself and see, press and hold the unlock button and watch as all the windows open and the car relocks after 30 seconds leaving the windows open.

Hello Border Collie and welcome along

Thanks for the replies everybody. I've tried what mannyo suggested and it does exactly that - I'll have to be careful in future. I was really hoping that it wasn't an electrical fault - it would be devastating if that happened in a car park...on a wet day. So far, after nearly 4 years, my Skoda has been totally reliable, I'll definitely get another.

?? If it happens again, put your key in the door lock and turn to unlock, if it doesn't return to it's original position or seems a little stiff, that's your problem.

(No, I know you never use your key to open the car, but it can still cause the windows to go down, known fault.)

Lock Just needs taken out then cleaned up & greased.

Thanks, that's worth bearing in mind.
