  1. Hello from an infrequent visitor, things have have been really tough lately and not getting any better. I still own the Audi A4 Cabriolet, and the Volvo as well. Audi flew through last MOT with only advisories being the headlights as they need polishing again, however lack of use is now starting to catchup with the old girl. MOT was in September 2022 and it has covered just 950 miles since then, and most of those were done after the Volvo broke down and was off the road for three weeks waiting for parts. Between September 2021 and 2022 the car covered about 2300 miles. Audi now has a roof leak, and back in February found quiet a lot of water on the drivers side of the interior after some heavy rain. Rear window where it is bonded to the convertible top, needs to be redone for the 2nd time, I used tiger seal the last time it was done. Audi is on just over 116K miles, not bad for a near 20 year old car. Volvo is on 49K miles, so I've done 21K miles in that in almost two years of ownership. Audi is in for service tomorrow, maybe it will get some more use this summer that last year...
  2. Thought I would bring this old thread back up again. I've really got back into old Hifi, and have built up quiet a collection of old kit, however I do use modern speakers rather than old. Some of my equipment, in a list, will add some pictures if there is interest. Music Centre Toshiba SM3100 from around 1976 Boombox National Panasonic RS-4350LJ from the late 1970s. Reel to Reel Akai 4000DS MK2 from around 1972 CD Players Pioneer PDM-6 multidisc CD player from the mid 80s. Marantz CD65DX from the early 1990s Amplifiers Memorex (Realistic) STA-2380 from the late 1980s Marantz PM35 from the late 1980s Cassette Decks Pioneer CTS-610 from the 1990s Pioneer CTS-440S from the 1990s Yamaha KX393 from the 1990s Sony TC-RX50 from the late 1980s Marantz SD35 from the late 1980s I have a NAD one somewhere here as well. There are multiple turntables, from modern ones like my Project Debut Carbon Elite SB back to my Pioneer PL400 Direct Drive from 1976, 5 in total. Speakers, I have Cambridge Audio SX80 floorstanders on the Memorex and Monitor Audio Bronze 5 floorstanders on the Marantz. All kit in regular use except the NAD which has issues on the takeup clutch and the boombox which annoyingly needs the amp section recapping on the left channel.
  3. Chris, main daily driver is now a 2017 Volvo V90 D4 Inscription which had 28K miles on it when purchased in May 2021. Lots of factory extras fitted on top of the already decent spec. Maybe one day I will put a thread up.
  4. Hi everyone Just an update to say, I am still around and still own the Audi although it has now become a second car rather than my main daily driver. The Audi has had so much done now since the last update. Serviced by me, New disks / pads and front brake calipers ABS Sensor replaced Cambelt and tensioners done New tyres all round. All this work resulted in a clean MOT a few weeks ago, and it's hardly been driven since.
  5. Late November 2020 and the Cabrio is going for the last piece of major scheduled service item. On Friday she is off for a cambelt / tensioners / water pump and aux belt change. Last changed by a previous owner in 2013 it is well overdue on time, but well short on mileage. Apart from that nothing to report, it continues to be driven on regular long distance journeys even in these strange times as a key worker.
  6. September 2020 and the Audi now has a fresh MOT, passed with no advisories so all the work done was worth it. Miles continue to pile on, just back from holiday in Cornwall at my home in Dorset, heading back to Hertfordshire next weekend and maybe Lincolnshire the following weekend.
  7. Another update on the Audi. Finally got both rear springs and shocks replaced a couple of weeks ago, transformed the feel of the back end. Now on 103K miles, mileage has continued to be piled on even throughout the full covid-19 lockdown. Finally the car is all sorted, and will need to go through an MOT at the end of August, hopefully all will be good for that. The cambelt / water pump is next on my hit list, last changed in 2013, but it has not done many miles since.
  8. And still running well Dan although hardly driving anywhere at the moment.
  9. She is looking really good Rob.
  10. New year, new update on the Cabriolet Confirmed that all engine fault codes are clear an not returned, which is a very positive thing considering the way it was. As a consequence of replacing the crankcase breather valve, oil consumption is now zero. I've done almost 1K miles since replacing the valve and the oil level has not changed, before the change I was adding 1 litre every 2000 miles. I've also now resolved the check engine light issue, it was as I suspected. The cluster had been taken apart before and the LED for the check engine light unsoldered from the PCB. I removed the TPM LED and soldered this where the check engine light one should have been and all is good. Light now comes on when you switch on ignition and goes out (and stays out) when you start the car. So, just the rear springs to get replaced now. The Audi now has just under 97K miles, so I've done almost 8K miles in it since the end of September.
  11. The system is fully sealed, if you are having to add coolant then it is leaking somewhere. Keep an eye on the oil level, if it is rising unexpectedly then maybe the water is mixing in with the oil for some reason.
  12. Hoping that all these are now fixed. 17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!) P1297 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded 17544 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean P1136 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON 16891 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected. P0507 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent 16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 16685 - Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected P0301 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 16687 - Cylinder 3: Misfire Detected P0303 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent 16686 - Cylinder 2: Misfire Detected P0302 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent Had vacuum leak due to multiple issues in the crankcase breather system. She now runs smoothly at idle, no more misfires and a stable idle speed at 850RPM which was previously all over the place. The leaks were causing problems with the operation of the DV, so after replacing some pipework and several valves in the breather system all is good and no more codes. Now all it needs is new rear springs and I need to resolve the non functional check engine light.
  13. OK, So, I've now owned the Audi for almost 2 months and done 3K miles in that time. This car has a lot of issues that have come to light, I will get them sorted but I will need a specialist to resolve them. I removed the intake hose to the throttle body and the thing is clean, and may have been replaced at some point because it looks like there is a new gasket between the throttle body and intake manifold. Moving on. She still leaks oil, about 1 litre has leaked out in 2.5K miles, the leak seems to be from one of the turbo oil lines. It's definitely a leak rather than burning it in combustion, and only leaks when engine is running. A VCDS Scan shows a number of issues within the engine ECU which may all be linked. I cleared them 2 weeks ago and these are the ones that return. 7 Faults Found: 17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!) P1297 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded 17544 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean P1136 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON 16891 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected. It should have been on with one of those faults, but its AWOL and does not light when switching on ignition. Rear springs still need replacing. Radio amplifier in boot is faulty.
  14. Some observations regarding the unmetered air intake. I noticed the other day whilst driving with the window open that on WOT you can hear air from the front of the car. So I think air is escaping after the turbo as the sound becomes more prominent as the turbo spools up. I wonder if that could also be the cause of the running issue as I guess when running off turbo the intake could be drawing air in through the same leak.
