octavia vrs tdi pd cam shaft sensor fault

Featured Replies

Hi there i have a 08 octavia vrs tdi pd 170 with dpf on it which i have taken off due to juddering problems and poor mpg which had stopped doing it for few months but now i am gettin the juddering problems again and sumtimes taking a while to start when hot and cuts out sumtime while driving, done a diagnostics check and only comes up with cam shaft position sensor fault, tried numerous garages to do it and the feeling i get from the garages is they dont wanna go near doing it, is it really that hard a job??

What is the fault code number?

Can't remember but there was 2 codes that came up with same fault, 1 code was recognised with autodata and other wasn't, it hasn't done the problem since reset it, but it will do it again after a week or so cause i have done this many times, and wen it does it the cruise control stops working aswell

The codes are important. Without knowing the fault codes it could be the the camshaft sensor, engine speed sensor or possibly a timing problem.

When I saw your first post, I thought it was the camshaft sensor with temperature related problems. Often, when you switch off the engine, the temperature of some components rise as there is no airflow to cool them.

Now you have mentioned the cruise control, I'm thinking maybe it's the speed sensor.

Not knowing the exact codes, I would certainly go to a dealer (or a specialist VAG indy) and have them check the cambelt just in case.

Its camshaft position sensor has no signal that is coming up, got timing belt kit n water pump done and thy where Ment to do it as asked but said got wrong sensor and doesnt sound like camshaft sensor and to do the sensor wanted another 100 to 150 labour plus part,

If the sensor is getting no signal it goes sound like a faulty sensor or a problem with the pick up on the back of the pulley.
