1.6TDI CR Superb - economy?

Featured Replies

We came across a nice Superb Estate for sale the other day... 1.6 TDI CR SE Plus. Currently we've got a VRS Octavia TDI CR 170... whilst economy from that isn't bad, we're thinking of going down the slightly more comfort/economy-orientated route when it's time to renew later in the year, now that we've had our fun with the vRS!

Just wondered what real-world economy from this engine is like? And what it's like to live with. I notice it's only 5-speed, whereas our Octavia is 6-speed. Does it cope ok on motorways?

Cheers for any views on this engine - much appreciated!

I'm getting 55 mpg on mixed urban & motorway driving (cruising at 70 mph on the motorway) measured brim to brim. The engine only has 1200 miles on it so I reckon that those figures should improve.

In terms of performance, my last car was a Subaru Legacy diesel which returned 45mpg average for the same commute. The Legacy was a 2 litre producing 150 bhp but I don't feel short-changed with the Greenline engine.

With 12,500 miles on the clock, my Greenline Combi is returning 61.9mpg, based predominantly on motorway/A-road motoring and an average speed of around 60mpg.

The engine is still loosening up, however, at present, I need third for overtaking, far more than I did in my old Superb 1.9Tdi (well, it was remapped!).

If Skoda were allowed to use stop-start and battery regeneration technology on the 2.0Tdi CR, this would be my engine of choice. Oh, and the 6 speed 'box in the Passat 1.6Tdi I test drove I while ago was nicer to use than the Superb's 1.6Tdi's 5 speed 'box.

The Greenline's lower ride height over the standard Superb creates a bit of harshness, although, nothing I suspect someone coming from a Octy vRS would detect!

http://www.spritmoni...ail/460587.html According to google that is 45.6mpg

But on spritmonitor you can easily search to see what the average is for a model.

Looks like an average of just under 45mpg

Thanks for the replies all. Is there anyone out there with a non-Greenline 1.6 TDI? Ta!

Hi I've just got (3rd Feb) a Superb 1.6 Greenline Estate in Elegance spec. It easily does 60mpg on a Motorway run (occasional bursts to 80mph for overtaking) the average though is 55mpg which I'm more than pleased with. It's quiet inside even at 80 and still torquey enough for most jobs. Had a 2.0 Insignia before and I don't miss it, although it was nippier but then 42mpg average , no thanks, and you can't see out of them. The extra room in the Superb is, well, Superb lol.

My 1.6CR S twindoor is now 10 months old and on 18,000 miles.

For day to day running on rural roads I ca regularly do 60-62mpg. For dual carraigeway (70mph) and urban 48-52mpg usual

Overall my usual indicated mpg is 53-55mpg using display, and 51-53 using brim to brim

Regarding gears I don't miss 6th as the ratios are good
