Turbo Noise

Featured Replies

Afternoon all, hoping this is an easy question!

On Sunday whilst out in the octy the car, on occasions I got a funny turbo spool up noise, instead of the nice continuous whoosh of the turbo I was getting a whoosh whoosh whoosh best described as I can ( feel free to laugh ).

I've had a search around on here for info eg boost leaks or n75 but nothing seems to match what I heard.

Any pointers in the right direction would be very grateful :)

Faulty dump valve?

Could be a faulty N75 or Actuator opening and closing the wastegate when it shouldn't be, or something (like the DV or a split pipe) leaking boost although I would expect you to just get very little turbo noise if it was a boost leak rather than the turbo sounding like it was stopping and starting... that does sound more like the wastegate is messing about.

If you've got VAG-Com you can check the actual and requested boost levels, and check the operation of the N75. Or if you have any members near you who can lend you their N75 to try it you can see if that makes a difference.

Cheers pal, gona plug it in when I get a minute and try my old n75 aswell. When I get 5 mins away from work n kids lol :)

Quick question chicken, how do you request boost pressure from vag com? Does it just give you the last recorded boost level? Because i would like to know what mine is boosting at, currently don't have the time/money to install a gauge.

You need to do some logging on Group 115

That gives you Requested Boost and Actual Boost

Group 119 is the one to use for checking the operation of the N75.

Just give it a good drive in 2nd and 3rd gear using all the revs that should give you a decent log to have a look at.

The boost pressure is in millibars and it adds 1000mbars atmospheric pressure so e.g. if one of the logged values is 1700mbars that is actually 0.7bar (9.8psi)

Some e.g.s of boost logs on this thread: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=209634
