Diesel - colour change at pumps

Featured Replies

Hi

Just heard on LBC (London radio) that people have are fallen foul of BP having changed the colour coding on their pumps so that some have accidentally filled up with petrol instead of diesel, as the colour is now half-and-half apparently.

Might be that they were dippy, or maybe, as suggested, they just picked the nozzle they were familiar with colour-wise.

Don't know, but thought I'd post soonest to be on the safe side.

Diesel should always be black handles.

It was the BP ultimate petrol that did that, As their handles were bright blue, diesel drivers mistook it for Esso who use that colour for their diesel pumps. This was a while ago, and BP have since replaced them with green handles.

It's easily done - two weeks ago I'd got as far as picking up the Ultimate petrol nozzle and was about to put it into the tank when I thought the price looked lower than expected and I realised I'd pulled up at a different pump to the one I usually use. In both cases the Ultimate pump is the one in the middle between ordinary petrol on the left and ordinary diesel on the right. Felt like a right fool having to manoeuvre into a different bay...

BP ultimate is still bloo where i live :P

FWIW Interestingly, I usually go by the price also since Premium etc tend to mean Standard  - and even then, only the two (cheapest) of the four available fuels are normally shown on the neon entrance board, so no help there

As the radio prog I mentioned was an hour's phone-in tonight, it does seem that the problem hasn't gone away yet...
