Filled my water twice in 24hours - Not a screen wash problem!

Featured Replies

As above, I've now filled it twice in 24 hours....no sign of a leek but the warning light alerted me to the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi kevvrs_130

Some time ago I had a similar problem which turned out to be an 'external' leak at the bottom right hand corner of the radiator (viewed when facing the car). It was a difficult one to locate because the leaking coolant was evaporating on the hot radiator core so there was no visible sign of a leak just a 'damp' patch in the corner! Was nevertheless losing a lot of coolant.

I ruled out an internal leak - no emulsion on the oil filler cap and no over pressurising of the coolant expansion tank (from a blown head gasket) so decided to replace the radiator. Lots of dismantling of front end but quite straight forward. Dealer supplied radiator was about £100. There are cheaper alternatives.

Good luck with solving your problem.

P.S. there are a couple of temperature sensors/switches(?) at the nearside end of the radiator high up and these have been known to leak - no gasket!! Worth a look. Think they're switches for the cooling fans.

Thanks for the info. I had a wee look this evening and on the drip tray looking straight down I can see a wetness. Not found out yet if it's a leek from the radiator or maybe some oil...was hard to tell.
