I have noticed, and i am not condoning it, but when driving along and you are accelerating hard or cruising at over 100 i get a real smell of the CAT come into the car if i have my window on a small crack. does anyone else get this?

she passed her MOT with flying colours, and this happened before the MOT too.

Any Ideas as to why? :S

What does the cat smell like? Maybe you have an oil leak or split breather somewhere under the bonnet?

a Cat can smell like sulphur dioxide, which is what it smells like.

Sorry, what i meant to put was when at 70/80mph, then accelerate hard to over a ton. then if u give it beans at over a ton, or cruising u get the smell. The smell comes up from footwell area, no not my feet smelling either

defo no oil leak, she barely uses any.

Do you have a lot of cat owners near you . I had this problem with a laid up car, and founfd the toms were using it to shelter under ,and claim as their teritory. But if it hapens at a ton , perhaps you've got one under te bonnet ,at a ton., it's not surprising :giggle:

Having had CAT issues on my Vectra (replacement cat) i am all too aware of what one smells like. I wish it was a pussy cat, if there was one under there then it would be a Sh**y smell  surely if stuck under there at over a ton. :giggle:

Its almost as though a vacuum under the car is created and it comes through into footwell via the vent down there. but it's only really over a ton that it comes to fruition. I know, dont drive that fast. ;) but she asks so nicely especially today. empty section of A303, rare to happen so opened her up, got to over a ton, smell appears, slowed down to under a ton, goes away. Its almost as though a seam between the exhaust and cat leaks under high high pressure/flow.

Have you tried changing the petrol you use, i.e. buying it from somewhere else for a bit?

Yeah, have tried different ones, gone back to shell now as get more mpg from it, better running to. she always seems a bit sluggish on tesco's even momentum go to shell, normal stuff or even optimax fine no sluggishness, smell is there the same.

might try some cat cleaner see if that actually does anything

You don't have any misfires do you? That would explain the cat smell, but I've no idea why you can only smell it at a ton.
