Has anyone tried using an oil extractor pump on a 1.9 TDi?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just bought one of these pumps (Sealey 650) and tried to change the oil on my Fabia 1 1.9 Tdi and couldn't get it to suck out more than about 2.3 litres. I was using the dipstick channel because there is some kind of filter mesh under the oil filler cap - can this be removed?

I read that these can leave a bit of oil in the bottom of the engine but it seems to only have extracted about half. :drunk: Has anyone any tips?

I did my SDI last week, took all the oil out according to the container. Did you push the tube in too far so it curled back up away from the bottom of the sump? Shouldn't be any difference between SDi and TDI.

Hi Peter, I did both - pushed it in until until it hit something and pumped, then pushed it in using a bit more force hoping it may reach some crevices and pumped more. Infact I pushed it in various amounts and pumped but just found after 2.3 litres it was just gargling air mainly.

Daft question time..... did you only have 2.3 litres in to begin with?

My pela 600 always removes the full 4.5 litres. You need to make the suction tube snake around the bottom of the sump by pushing the tube around as much as possible.

No, it possibly was a bit low as I put about 3L back in. I did plenty of trying to get it to snake around but only found air. Oh well I'll try again in a few months and try and make the oil hotter by driving the car for a while before I do the change, I only let it idle for about 10 minutes before.

This is your problem IMO, the oil needs to be up to operating temperature.

I bought the Pela recently for doing oil changes on the Fabia.
