Which Superb to buy........

Featured Replies

Hi All.

We seem to agree (me 'n 'er indoors...) that our next car will be a Superb Estate. No real need for a wagon, but I'm replaceing a sucession of Mondeo wagons that have always been useful to have around.

I've manged to try-out a representative selection of the different engine / tranmission combinations, (thanks Lee & Glen) & have narrowed the choices down to the 170 ps CR diesel, the 160 ps 1.8 TFSI & the 200 PS TFSI, all with the DSG option.

If finances permit, I'm going to keep my 2.0 litre TFSI Octavia vRS, so I don't "need" lot's of performance, but a Superb is a big car & I'm too impatient to wait for ever ever for gaps in roundabouts.

As always, all of these engines can be tuned for better performance, & since I do prefer the 7 speed DSG, I'm leaning towards a 1.8T, but I'd very much welcome any input from anyone who knows Superbs better than I. (I.E., everybody else on this forum!)

As for trim levels, the Elegance would be a nice replacement for my Ghia X Mondeo, & since I'm unlikely to exceed 8/10K miles per year, economy isn't as important as it might be.

We have both retired from work, so commuting is never going to be an issue, but long touring hoildays in Europe & the UK are lilely instead.

So, over to you folks, TIA for any information, comments, etc.

Cheers, David Clark.

i did the same as you tried all 3 as above,i found the petrol engine felt and sounded a bit harsh at high revs.nice and smooth at low revs

not that much difference in performance but the 170 cr seemed to pull better nicer to drive, and thats the one i went for as you can see plus the extra 10 miles gallon.
