Octavia VRS Estate on order - a couple of quick questions.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have recently placed an order for a new Octavia VRS estate. I have a few quick questions:

1. Since placing the order I have realised that the vehicle does not have curtain airbags as standard (I have owned several VAG cars recently all of which had them as standard). As far as I am aware the build date has not been agreed yet - if I add these to the build will there be a delay? Will not having them fitted be a problem when trying to sell the car?

2. I will be taking the car to Germany and will need to swap the reverse and fog lights over in order to pass the light test. This used to cost approx 60 euros via dealer in Germany; my wife has a VW Golf V so it will probably make economical sense to buy VCDS / cable in order to complete this task for both cars (plus I get a new toy too). Has anyone else carried this out procedure, and is it relatively straight forward?

I look forward to any assistance that you may be able provide.

Welcome.

If you've not had the build week confirmed yet, it should still be possible to have that option added. Have you added any other options to the car? If so, I don't think this addition will add any significant time onto the build. Don't see any re-sale issue without them really. Depends how keen a buyer is to have them fitted I suppose!

Not really sure what you mean about the light swap? Do you mean the enabling of the second rear foglight? If so, this hasn't been possible yet - with the latest facelift Octavia models. But if whatever you need doing has been done for you before by a German dealer, then the same procedure should be possible with VCDS.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Thanks for your reply - I will try to explain a little better. In order to meet local regulations when switching on fog it must be on the LHS of car not RHS as per UK. On the Golfs / Leons I have had previously this required fitting continental rear light clusters (inner only) plus reprogramming via VCDS. Having looked at the rear clusters on the Octavia estate it looks like a bulb swap only (clusters on UK and continental models look identical - i.e. no red / clear lenses for fog / reverse) plus reprogramming via VCDS. I know a few guys have used leads to jump across the lights in the past, but this usually sets off the bulb failure warning caption due to the resistance change in the lighting circuits (if this caption appears then car fails light test). After searching some of the VCDS forums I can't see anything specific to this issue.

I see, with you now. Might be worth posting a question to that effect in the VCDS forum here, then - see if one of the Ross-Tech staff picks that up.

You add an extra level of complexity on this, as quite a few of the controllers on the FL (facelift) model have changed, so quite a bit of this coding stuff is different.

Wardy - After looking at some of the VCDS forums I think that you were spot on; need to activate the second fog rather than swap over. Now I just need to find out if this can actually be done. Thanks for info.

Can you use the quote function, if you want to display someone's previous post? Getting tricky to see which bits you've written :)

On the 2nd foglight, you'll need to have this confirmed as it's an FL issue - but I don't think this is currently possible. As already mentioned, because of the new controllers that are now used on the FL.
