I've got a radiator leak which m,eans I'm having to put water into it almost daily.

I've been quoted £250 to get it replaced and fitted. Having just forked out £850 for a flywheel/ clutch replacement, I can't really afford it.

Has anyone used Radweld to fix a radiator leak?

Look in the yellow pages or Google for radiator repaires. As long as you are prepared to take out and replace the rad. If the hole is quite small then Radwell might fix it there is also the white from a standard egg it worked on a JCB rad for me many years ago!

I paid £26 + VAT for the new radiator!!!!.... Bargain I know!!

As far as fitting it goes, .. if you have a socket set and some torx bits, it's not too hard at all (I'm guessing that it won't be much different to the Octavia).

This where the rad will be leaking, VAG rads only tend to last around 6 years before the bottom corners corrode.

I changed one on a MK4 Golf a few weeks ago and that one was around that price (the replacement coolant cost nearly as much)

Just in the middle of replacing the radiator on my Octavia II. The hoses are disconnected and I am now trying (without success) to get the connector piece with the thermo switch off the old radiator. Is there some trick to this - I have removed the spring clip and pulled and twisted but it doesn't feel right. It was getting dark and perhaps it will be obvious tomorrow but any hints would be appreciated.

Got those connectors off OK. Pull and wiggle worked ok. Twisting is not a good idea as there is an orientation guide built into the connector which prevents rotation.

BTW to remove the radiator on the octavia II remove the headlights (unscrew the large plastic nut on the inside and pull the hook just behind the bumper) to get access to the torx screws that hold on the upper radiator mounts. Fairly easy job.

I also replaced the radiator on the Octavia II. All went well until I tried pushing on the pipe connectors to the radiator. Unless you know of a good technique, you 'll need the power of the hulk to push these far enough on to engage the spring clip. It is much harder than removing them, probably because I used the new seals. Any ideas would be welcome for this.

Lube the new seals with a bit of neat coolant (quite slippery stuff)?
