Rallye Sport. The v is the diacritic mark (Caron) above the S in Skoda.

I thought it was to do with trademarks.

Isn't it an Octavia 'RS' in Europe, but Ford has RS registered so in the UK it became the Octavia 'vRS' over here?

Or is that another urban myth?

IIRC the "v" is from the accent in the "S" in Skoda. I noticed a little while ago that the V is not in the same font as the RS, but is exactly the same shape as the accent:

Exactly, what I said earlier. It is a diacritic mark called a 'caron' :)
