16/0.2 5A - Where can I get it? Please help...

Featured Replies

I need to extend a wire to get a 12v switched live feed for parking sensors from the fuse board of an Octavia 2, but cannot find any that matches what (I think) I currently have.

  • The wire is 16 strands of 0.2mm copper (?) wire.
  • The wire and sheath have a combined diameter of approx. 1.55mm.
  • The manual says that these sensors should run off a 5 amp fuse.
  • It is black with a purple tracer.

Leaving the colour aside, I can find cable rated at 3A or 11A, but nothing at 5A in this size...

Can I fit the 11A wire and put a 5A fuse on it?

Should I get the 3A wire and put a 3A fuse in?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of this wire? Ideally in the right colour or at least close.

Someone must make it somewhere - and I only need 2 meters at most.

Please help.

Tried Google or ebay?

Yes to both!

I thought the feed for the Parking aid control unit was a black wire with a blue trace. It's 0.5mm so 16/0.2 is the right size. 5A fuse is correct.

I'd take Black with blue tracer if I could find any that was rated correctly.

I'm more concerned about having the right cable than the right colour!

The convention is to use plain yellow cable. If you go to a dealer, that's the colour they will sell you. You can get 16/0.2 blue/black but only in reels of 250m

14/0.3 blue/black is more common. It's twice the CSA you need (1.0mm), but that's OK. Fuse is still 5A
