Re-painted Spoiler vs replacement

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

The paint has all started to go on my spoiler. I dinked it off the roof of a garage several months ago and since then the lacquer all gone and water has got between the layers.

I can get a replacement off an '08 plate for £120, or can get it sanded down and resprayed for around the same amount.

Which one would people advise, if given the choice?

Cheers guys :)

I too would be interested in people's opinions on this as the lacqueur has started peeling off my spoiler over the last 3 - 4 weeks.

Get your exisiting spoiler repainted.

The laquer on the vRS rear spoliers is renowned for failing over time.

Chances are the second hand spoiler may well go the same way sooner than you think.

At least if you have yours repainted you'll know it's good and I assume it may well even come with some sort of guarantee?

I had mine done at DM Keith Skoda in Leeds earlier this year whilst the car was in having other bodywork done (I think it had been 'attempted' before as it looked as though they'd sprayed it on a windy beach!). I'll haggled with the guy and he agreed to do it for £80+ VAT since they had the paint mixed and ready to go.

As it was a Skoda dealer I got their bodywork guarantee too.

He did mentioned it was quite a labour intensive job (if done properly) as they recommend taking it back to the plastic and starting from scratch.

I have the same problem with mine, but going to take it up with the dealer as car is covered by Skoda approved warranty.

Thanks guys, I am going to get it done at the garage I have used for several years for car servicing & general work. They are going to do it after servicing the car for £100 cash.

Ill update once the work has been completed. :)

I had mine resprayed in the end to. Would rather have a pro job on mine than taking a chance on a 2nd hand item.

I paid 100.also, some quotes were 60 to 80.

Skoda UK have just agreed to repaint mine free of charge!!!!

I only recently heard about a problem with Octavias, usually Fabias , mine still perfect on a Sept 56 plate, mind you it is waxed every week :giggle:

I don't have one, so this is just my opinion:

Better the devil you know. Having the original sanded and re-coated and sprayed leaves you in a position that you know it's been done. Buying a "pre-loved" one means you could be doing it all again in 12 months. The respray should come with some sort of warranty/guarantee too.

Totally agree to what RainbowFore has mentioned

Called into D.M Keiths today for them to remove the spoiler for painting and they say that they have had 3 in the last couple of weeks and all have been in Race Blue!!! So is it a problem omly in Race Blue?

Simon

Not just the blue ones, my black one has gone the same way in the last week. How much roughly is it costing to get repaired?

My blue one needed repainting , i figured it was due to too much machine polishing

As has been mentioned a few times now it's a common fault across all coloured Octavia vRS's.

Skoda UK have been known to pay for a re-spray too so you should always check with them first (08457 745745).

£100 is the average price for a professional re-spray.
