Outside air temperature sensor

Featured Replies

Can anyone help with this one please...

The display on dashboard for outside air temperature is about 15 degrees this afternoon as checked by my other VW range car.My Octavia Ambiante TDI 2008 car says same then just goes mad and sayys...- 1 then - 10 and - 23 !!!

Bought new sensor and does same goeas straight to the -23 !!!

So left ignition on and took sensor out,fan comes on dash say's nought as expected.

So put's back the old one..all back to normal eventually....ie...right temperature,so switched off ignition then back on and it goes beserk once again,, puts hand around all wires where possible to connectors and then swaps and put in new one again with igniton on and eventually it is Normal, does it again and with old one in and so far Ok,so not sure if i caught a loose connector when fiddleing around or is there a dispay computer playing games ?,anyone come across this before,if all is well, will try again in a mo and if working normal,,,i got one spare outside air temperature spare now.

Thanks if anyone can reply

It's likely to be a bad connection or wire. Try spraying some contact cleaner (or WD40) into the connector and then plug/unplug the sensor 10 times.

The wires to the connector are very thin. It's not uncommon to see bad crimps at the connector.
