Rust on boot lid - 2011 vRS

Featured Replies

Hello

I was shocked to find a small spot of rust breaking out on the edge of the boot lid on my white 2011 vrs. I've read about this before on here, but didn't expect to see it on an 11 month old car!

There appears to be a crack in the paint, it looks like perhaps the seam sealer as expanded/contracted causing the paint on top of it to crack. It's just inside the edge, at the end of the crease which runs across the back (at the top of the number plate recess). There is another crack at the other side but no orange colouring yet.

I went to the dealer today who seemed good. I was slightly surprised when they said they would send the claim off to Skoda for an answer, though.

Surely on a car of this age which has not been involved in an accident, there is only one answer?!

Anyone had any issues with this sort of issue being repaired by Skoda?

Not good at all Phil MY NEARLY SIX YEAR OLD CAR IS PERFECT

Everything else ive read on here would suggest the dealer will just swap the whole boot lid over, no quibbles.

Mine did this. They repaired it under warranty as opposes to replacing the boot lid. I think they do that if it comes back......

Trouble is as this is caused by a paint defect (it cracking) then it's dubious if it's covered by anti perforation (the 12 year one).

it's ultimately a design flaw as opening and shutting the boot makes that seam flex and the paint crack. :(

My Mum had similar issue with Fabia tailgate after about a year. Dealer repainted it.

Sarge.

Did you buy the car new? How did you pay for it?

Chrispy - Yeah I wondered about that. I would argue that it's a mechanical issue if the boot flexes enough to crack the paint... so if they don't cover it under anti-perforation, the general 3 yr warranty should. I'm hoping common sense prevails and they agree to repair it without a fight. I'm sure any reasonable person would agree that it's wholly unacceptable.

m0bov - No, I bought it recently, second hand from a Skoda dealer. Paid for with a trade in + debit card.

Shocking that this is happening on an 11 plate. The same thing happened on my 57 plate last year. Skoda UK said it wasn't covered under the anti corrosion warranty but would have been covered under the 3 year warranty as it was a mechanical issue...my car was 6 months older at the time!

A car less than a year old that is rusting?

What about all that galvanised steel and protection they go on about?

Sounds like a 1980's Alfa/Fiat etc.

That's poor quality one way or another. If they dispute that at all, I'd be totally disgusted.
