Mechatronic, right? Unless there is something else that starts with a M in the DSG (apart from Mechatronic and Megaclutch). Someone watched too much of Transformers while naming DSG components. This on a 6 speed DSG? What was the cost of replacement?

I know strange names i was told it controls the changing of the box, approx 2 grand, takes 2 hours which inc the new software update, i got it done under the warranty, was also told it just gets worse if its not changed !! Like i said i will defo take extra warranty in november just in case, i do love this car, cant say i would love the repair costs if i had to pay, my advice get some warranty on it ASAP

Hells teeth 2 grand!

I nearly bought a second hand Octavia recently but was scared off with the DSG gearbox. If you buy a car for about £3.5k that's more than half the value of the car. Its a wonderful gearbox to use though, but on an older second hand car could you afford to fix it!

Whilst very true, there are many other electrical items these day's to cause problem's when older, that could cost to get put right. Friend of mine has a new clutch every 10k @ £800 a go, for her this may make the DSG a cheaper fix. .

If it were me i would buy my used octavia from a main dealer you will get at least 6 month warranty happy days

Dsg is my choice mine also returns 47 mpg at 85 mph. Did this last month down the eden project 500 mile round trip and 39 round town where the engine never gets hot you cant moan at that 2.0 tdi auto, but but but with all the electric toys on board lots to go wrong i will be asking skoda if i can extend the warranty for 12 months then i will change it
