Radio removal keys stuck!

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a problem. I have both radio removal keys stuck in my symphony head unit! I tried to remove my head unit this afternoon and I seem to have both keys stuck and can't remove the head unit. They are wedged in and can't be moved in or out!

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

And is there any other way I can remove my head unit and release these keys as they are now pretruding out of my head unit!

The head unit is in a mk1 fabia vRS if this helps.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

I've got keys stuck in stereos in the past, not in the skoda though, usually a case of brute force with some wiggling, unfortunately not too sure about the setup in a fabia so cant really help with another removal method.

It might help trying to pull the on the tray under the radio. They can be a tight fit.

Or try removing the glovebox lid/fascia and pushing as well as pulling...

Try waggling and twisting it rather than straight pulling.

...Assumes the keys are stuck holding the clips, not stuck wonky-like...

Also... The "side" trims come away with a bit of pressure from a medium/large flat bladed screwdriver (from top ideally).

The button blanks above the radio are also relatively simple to remove with a slim screwdriver or spatula/spreader.

Best tape up the blade of any screwdrivers etc to prevent/minimise any marking of trim.

Your the man vindaloo! Managed to remove the keys tonight by taking the side trims around the stereo out and and pressing on the clips which hold the stereo in which released the keys.

Many thanks for your help.

Aidy.
