Diesel filling problems on 2.0tdi CR

Featured Replies

One shell garage I tried twice always blows back and I can only trickle fuel in, another shell station 5 miles from that one fills no problem. I had the same problem with Tesco one station works no problem another blows back and can only trickle fuel in !

I usually fill up at my local BP station with no problem but when they put the prices too high I usually go elsewhere.

Never had this problem with my last car (2.2tdi CR Nissan) - I could fill that up in any garage.

Any one else experienced the same problem - is there a certain pump pressure it can't handle, or is it just a feature of my car?

I'm sure I had this on my 2008 PD vRS, IIRC I just wiggled it about a bit ;) until it took the full force of the fuel fill up. I do remember avoiding those stations in the end.

Sorry I cannot remember much more.

Change the angle of the nozzle or move it a bit outwards, the fuel is bouncing back from the pipe wall and causing the nozzle to cut off the supply. Typical thing on some models/stations.

thanks guy's - I did try rotating through 360 degrees with no effect - will try moving it outwards next time

I have found that it will cut off unless you have the nozzle directly at 90 degrees to the body of the car.

Rotating 360 degrees takes you back to where you started!

I've had the same problem. I normally get my diesel at Tesco's, and I find some of their pumps are very sensitive.

Rather than rotating the nozzle I find pulling it out an inch or so from the filler neck helps.

I had the same trouble with diesel delivery pumps cutting out when I first got my 1.9 TDI. Got very frustrating.

Then I found by accident that the problem only seemed to happen when I was trying to hold the nozzle straight in the filler neck.

If I just relax and just let the nozzle kind of hang in the filler neck, handle down, spout up (if you catch my drift!), I never have a problem.
