Central Locking suddenly not working?

Featured Replies

Bought a used Fabia 1.9SDi Classic today. All going well until nightfall when I put the key in the door, turn it & all door knobs open. 5 mins later I go to lock the car from the drivers side, turn the key & only the drivers side door knob locks. I then have to manually lock every other door.

I have tried several times since however the central locking still doesn't work. It's kinda weird, one minute it's working then literally just stops?

Does anyone know what may be wrong, is it a fuse thing, a battery thing, is it something I can fix? Making note that this is only a key turn operated central locking, no buttons on the key.

Any tips, info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Hi John, thanks for the welcome. I bought it from a dealer.

Nice to be here, thanks for the welcome! Hoping I'm able to get to the bottom of the central locking mystery?

Don't know about coding on older cars but could be a coding issue however, as you bought it from the dealer I'd be taking it back or giving them a ring if it's some distance away and getting them to rectify under warranty or as a gesture of good will.

Did exactly as you've suggested. As the dealer is close I've given them a call & they said "Sure Ed, bring it back in & we'll have a look for you." Hopefully it's an easy fix situation.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll watch carefully what they do in case it happens again

Good to hear :)

Is it a Skoda dealer / franchise or an independent?

It was just a plain old 2nd hand car dealership, no link to Skoda, they had hundreds of different models. Out the back of the dealership there was a pretty big big, fully equiped car mechanics workshop. They were working on all makes, all types of cars.

Took the car in this afternoon & found out a few things. There is a circuit box to the right of the drivers sterring wheel behind the headlight dial. In the circuit box there would've have been 50 or so fuses. The mechanic looked up on some Skoda technical sheets to see what every fuse in the circuit board did. He was trying to find which one was resposible for the central locking. He found it, checked it & the the fuse was intact. He needs to look into the problem further so I'm taking it back on Monday... fingers crossed

Well, at least you seem to have bought from a decent garage, someone who is willing to look in to things for you and hopefully get it sorted.

Good luck with it

As you bought it from a garage you're covered by the sale of goods act and hopefully they'll be able to fix it. Either way you're covered as it's clearly not a minor problem. Best of luck

Thanks  They've hooked up the car to some fancy computer & can't find an electric fault so more investigation is necessary? Not a major issue really... if they can't fix it I can still get in & out, however central locking is handy!
