Turbo failure - sump removal necessary?

Featured Replies

Hi,

After fitting a recon turbo to my fabia following a turbo blow up, I ran it successfully for 3 months, and it failed again.

I returned it under warranty, which was rejected with contaminated oil being stated as the reason for failure.

I had cleaned everything before replacing the turbo-intercooler, boost pipes, oil feed etc, and naturally changed the oil and filter.

Seeing as the failure has occurred again, what do I need to do differently?!

Should I remove and clean the sump as well?

All advice gratefully received!

Nick

If it wa sme, id want to strip the whole engine down to make sure everything was clean! So yeh id take thwe sump off!

It could be an issue with the turbo not get enough oil pressure. The turbo is often the first thing to let go when the top of the engine is being starved of oil. I'd get an oil pressure test done.

Best to replace oil feed pipe as it can easily get blocked up, and is very difficult to clean 100%
