Octavia 05 1.9 pd not firing up

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am new to this forum and have been retrying to figure out what's wrong with my Octavia.

I bout this car for my wife a week ago, drove like a dream, everything seemed ok.

Yesterday took it to have hazards lights checked because these were faulty. He checked the fuses and changed the bulbs but no avail. Left the mechanic and 200 meters down the road the engine died.

Had it scanned, fault codes came as glow plugs.

Changed all glow plugs still not firing up.checked the fuel pump under the rear seats and fund out fuel not going through. Mechanic suggested to change the brake switch. No avail.

Today changed the fuel pump relay 447. Engine fired up straight away, also hazard lights started working but noticed brake lights were constantly on. Mechanic asked me to take it to an electrician. As I drove out of the garage the engine died again. This time glow plug light is flashing. Steering warning light came on and went off.i am going nuts , have had 2 days off from work, spent about 100 quids but no luck.

Could anyone please help me?? Would be much appreciated.

Regards

kk

Hows your battery? You can get some really wierd electrical faults caused by an old failing battery.

Thanks for your quick response.

Battery is alright, have even changed it.

Really frustrated, cant get it sorted. At garage again this morning..

Any other opinion please??

Get a proper VCDS scan of the car. Most mechanics do not know what they are talking about, because their universal testers is not accurate enough when telling you where to look.

Have a check on here for "water in the fuse box" there has been a couple of posts recently with all the rain that i've read that could explain your symptoms.

I had a look in the fuse box , looks dry.suring this recent rain , did not drive it.

Only bought this car about 10 days ago.

Scanner goes crazy with so many faults. Its surely some relay. Could you please tell me what relay 460 is for??

Brakelights constantly on.

Glowplug sign flashing.

Abs light came on this morning.

Also steering sign comes up.someone suggester that it could be wiring loom?

Regards

the bottom left relay is the ECU / ENGINE CONTROL UNIT RELAY change it and all will be fine, there is also a 460 on bottom right change that at the same time , there around £11 each at the stealer, mk5 golfs have the same fault

Thanks so much for your help.

Would you have any part no for these parts?

When called local vw dealer he said part nos are required as his system only recognizes vw parts, no skoda dealer nearby.

My 1.9 Tdi 2006 Octy2 Estate was suffering mystery electrical power failures.

This killed the engine, all the instruments would die and the engine would not turn over. After a couple of minutes turning the key would bring the car back to life (until it conked out again). There is a severe lack of proper information about the electrical systems 'on line'. Suffice to say that by dint of pulling relays out until I generated the same fault I arrived at the relay labeled '460', situated behind the panel below the steering wheel, there are two '460' relays. Removing the left hand one kills the engine and instrument panel. The right hand '460' relay apparently controls the heater fan. Swapping the relays left to right appears to have cured the conking out and my heater fan is not running so my conclusion is 'Dodgy Relay'.

The part number of the relay is 1ko951253A and seems to be freely available and is sometimes referred to as the ECU relay, that would explain a lot.
