Brand New Octavia 1.6TDi Rattle in 5th Gear When Accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 4 week old brand new Octavia 1.6TDi and overall I am very happy with the car except....

Within about a week of owning the car I have noticed that when you load up 5th gear there is a faint metalic fluttering sound that can be heard in the cabin and appears to be coming from the gearbox area of the engine bay.

It's not loud, and it only does it in 5th gear up to around 2,000rpm - after that you can't hear it - possibly due to road noise.

Any ideas anyone??? Has anyone else had this problem? I have the CAYC engine with a 'normal' 5 speed manual gearbox.

The car is 4 weeks old now and the noise is not getting any better or worse!

I have the same "issue" since new.

You can also notice this in 4th at about 60-80km/h.

Recently drove 2 other Octavias and both did the same.

If you press the acelerator just a tad the noise will go away (at least on mine)

My other car also did this, changed the gearbox oil to another type and the noise dropped 90%.

And yes it´s anoying at times, specially going downhill.

Don't hesitate to take it back and get it checked under warranty.
