Quality avi to dvd software

Featured Replies

For those of you who have avi films etc and want to convert it to dvd. Don't waste money or time on other programs use this little beauty. The Film Machine

It's so easy to use and can even convert subtitles as well (I watch a lot of far eastern movies) I highly recommend getting the Canopus Pro Coder 2.0 pro coder. Of course I didn't buy it at $499 but I aquired it if you know what I mean ;) So if you want decent quality DVD rips of your avi files you can't go wrong with this. A big ammount of respect to the guy who made it and made it freeware.

Think I'll be having a play with that tonight :D

It's good software seriously. I have tried DVD Santa and thought it was pooh, plus Mc Afee kept seeing it as a virus  I normally don't get excited about software but this is so good and simple to drive.

How long does it usually take to do the rendering to DVD format? I currently use Power Producer which came with my DVD writer and has 3 settings: 10Mbps, 5Mbps and 1.8 Mbps I think. I tend to use 1.8Mbps as it gives you 120 mins on a single layer DVD, but it would be nice to be able to get the highest bit-rate possible, based on the length of the film, rather than saying it's just too big for 5Mbps so we'll have to use 1.8Mbps!

As a comparison, Power Producer takes between 1 and 2 hours to render the files on my P4 2.8GHz with 1Gb of RAM :D

It takes a good 5 hours normally  but the quality is good, especially with the canopus encoder :D I just leave it to run overnight normally, or let it do it whilst i'm a t work.

On a similar vein, can anyone recommend software for DVD to AVI? As quick and as simple as possible please. I have been using Gordian Knot but was just wondering what others use.
