Dodgy starter connection found

Featured Replies

Greetings,

Been having an occasional non starting issue with my VRS recently. Turn iginition to 2 and all dash lights came on as normal then turn key to 3 to turn over and nothing. My lover couldn't get it started after work yesterday so I had to go and jiggle wires while she turned the key. It started when I jiggled one of the earth wires so I thought it was that at fault, no worries, easy replacement.

Today the car was doing the non start rather a lot but I found I could make it start by holding the key in the start position and then proceed to shake my booty in the driver's seat and rock the car enough to make a suitable connection :D

When I got home, I replaced the earth wire that I thought was at fault but to my annoyance and bitter dismay it would not start after I put it all back together. Gutted :(

So I methodically went through all the wires until I found this:

The trigger wire for the starter had broken and where I had been working, must've knocked it right out.

So I set about a tempory bodge (which, in all honesty will probably be permanent)

I crimped a female spade onto the end of the busted wire

Plugged it in and heat shrinked

And then finally, sealed it up from the elements with some gutter seal

Works now. Yay

i had exactly the same problem last week, i nearly bought a new starter for it until i stripped it all down for part numbers and found the broken wire :)

Result. Fairly common thing. Mine has been rewired after suffering the same thing.
