Mk2 Ruff Idle Stutter/Short on Power Under Load

Featured Replies

Can anybody maybe give us some insight into this? we've read loads in the forums with lots of slightly different situations, this is what happens with our car:

Rough idle, sometimes its ok, other times its really rough, like it is going to stall.

Stuttering/short on power, usually at load say 40-50mph in 4th or 5th gear, accelerating.

Engine light on all the time.

The shortness of power feels a bit like a split pipe, or lack of fuel or like in limp mode.

We've had the problem for a while, just been to our local auto-electricians, came up egr valve, had it replaced, test drove, still the same problem, but coming up with no fault codes and no engine light coming on.

We think we can rule out anything electrical after the scanning, been done on 3k snap-on kit.

Therefore we think it might be fuel filter, dodgy wiring loom (might explain the intermittent nature of the fault), air leak for the rough idle?, boost hose seal was a similar problem in the forums aswell.

The car is mk2 Octavia 105pd tdi used as a taxi with pretty high mileage, 335k, same engine, never had any injector problems at all, just routine servicing including cam belts and flywheel changed back to solid (much better than duel mass).

Any pointers guys?

Fuel filter is an easy item to change and can cause all sorts of running and power issues - worth ruling it out - can be ticked off the list.

If it's intermittent then I doubt it will be a boost leak.

Nice mileage btw!
