Broken Windscreen Wiper

Featured Replies

So i'm driving home in heavy snow, and all of a sudden the windscreen wipers get tangled up with each other.... no other choice but to switch them off, but fortunately i wasn't far from home and i could just about see, so i kept going

when i got home, i check it out and find that the nut holding the drivers side wiper on is very loose and as a result the splines on both the wiper arm and the splined shaft out of the wiper motor have worn down to almost smooth, hence why the wipers got tangled up

my first thought is how this has happened, the car is less than two years old, i've never touched the wipers before and they've never been used excessively - ie no daft stuff like using them to clear snow and ice off the windscreen or anything like that

It looks like its been slipping slightly for a while and working loose and destroying the splines etc. i'm wondering if its possible that the nut was never tightened properly when new - but if so, would it really take nearly two years to develop into a fault?

i'm hoping its covered under warranty, but my local Skoda dealer can't do anything for me til Monday morning when their parts and service dept opens again - which is useful given the current weather and the fact the broken wiper is the drivers side.........

Why would it not be a warranty job?

Was an easy job on my old 1U, so not too long in W/S.

i'm assuming it will be covered under warranty, but i'm so used to dealers worming out of warranty payments etc, i'm never comfortable til its done and dusted
