If you do this the injection timing will be too advanced mid-range and will sound like a tractor.

To do it properly you need a suitable re-map. Send me a p.m. if interested, I can sort this for you if you are anywhere near NW9, as I go there periodically.

VCDS/VAGCOM can only reduce EGR, not switch it off completely.

Why do you want to block it, do you have smoke, or is it laggy? Long journey fuel economy should improve if done well, but short journeys, especially in winter, will result in slower warm up, hence a bit worse fuel economy, plus you will have to wear a jacket too.
