Strange clutch action after motorway run

Featured Replies

I've done a search but can't find anything similar reported.

When I've done a motorway run, and not even necessarily a particularly long one (maybe 15 minutes), the first clutch depression (like when coming to the roundabout at my exit) feels completely different to usual, with totally different weighting and feel to the action. By the next gearchange it seems fine again.

I mentioned it to the dealer when it went in for its first service and was told it was probably just the hydraulic fluid being warmer.

Am I being fobbed off or is this acceptable. Sounds logical but I haven't noticed it before on any cars.

Yeah, I guess kinda heavier and less springy in that it almost feels less likely to return to the up position. I'll have to analyse it more closely next time so I can describe it better!

I do 40+ m'way miles each way to work and back daily - I've never noticed this - I'll post having paid attention.

My Vectra 3.2 gsi does this too!

My Octavia seemed to do this, but I think it might just be your leg going to sleep! Probably nothing to worry about if all is fine at the next gearchange.

Don't notice it coming off the motorway, but Im sure my clutch feels weird when the car is cold (first thing in the morning, course it could be that Im still asleep!)

Could be the other end of the described effect?

hhmmmm my clutch feels the same all the time.... motorway or no motorway......

I don't see this on my furby vrs.

mine does the same thing.........strange

Mine started doing a similar thing a week or two ago. Once or twice the clutch pedal 'stuck' half way down and I had to put my foot under it to flick it back up!

Anyway. Last week the brake fluid alarm starts going off in corners. Topping up the level resolved the problem for only a few days so I cart it off to the dealer (its only 8 months old, 5500 miles). News today is that a connection to the clutch is leaking (uses same reservoir as brakes, hence the alarm).

Coincidence, or potential problem on '05 model vrs's?

Just because you're paranoid, it doen't mean your not being followed.....

Will keep an eye on it - done 8k miles as of today and not noticed it I must admit.

Sounds a lot more serious than mine, but I will keep an eye out for it getting worse. My brake pedal was like that due to a sticking switch when I collected it new.
