Can hand held speed cameras work in the dark?

Featured Replies

Just wondering as I was driving home from work this evening and the police were stopped by the side of the road and appeared to be speed checking but I cant really understand how they would be able to get a pic of the number plate without a flash in the dark?

Yep. I got done quite late on (8-10) in November so it would have been dark. Can't remember exact time as it was about 3/4 years ago now but it was somewhere about there.

Rollox!I blame 3rd gear!

Haha. Think I got caught yesterday too! Doh! Was doing 60 in a 50 zone. Athough that sounds to be quite a bit it's a dual carridge way that is 70 in parts and it was reall quiet at the time! :-(

It's bloody empty road that I cant understand why it is a 40 zone in the day let alone at 11.30 pm when no one else is around. I think I was doing 52ish!

I thought hand held was more for pulling you over there and then? And fixed/mounted or vehicle mounted for through the post stuff? Do they use hand held in England and write the registration numbers down at night and process it later?

It was a hand held one they got me with late at night and pulled me straight away like you said. It was a crap place where i got caught too. Just over the brow of a hill going from a 30 to a 40 and was speeding up for the 40. Iv never heard of them writing it down and getting back to you but thats jsut me.
