Changing headunit

Featured Replies

Hi there, I understand that this question may have been answered a few times, but I'm a complete novice on this..

I have a Kenwood MP3 CD headunit which I wish to fit inside my second-hand 02 Fabia . It has the current factory fit one, but I'm wondering how to remove it.

I see that there are two tiny slits either side of the top row of buttons, which I assume are to help remove it, and have two arms that came with the Kenwood that sort of fit it, but they dont, so I cant remove it that way.

Are there any arms that I could get for removing the headunit?

Also, are there any little surprises (weird connections) that I could come across?

Thanks in advance,

Damo.

You can get keys for it from Halfords (probably be badged as VW/Audi keys), or if you have any flat picture hooks from Ikea or the like, you can straigten these out and they will do the job. They do just push into the flat slots which then release the head unit.

The connections aren't that weird, but if you're a complete novice I'd recommend getting the wiring loom adaptor for it, should only be about

Halford Kenwood ones will fit, I made a set up out of a couple of bit's of ally I had in the garage.

Well, the good news is that I have it fitted, and I'll get the fascia adaptor during the week. But the bad news is that I now have nothing on MW/LW, whereas I did have on the Kenwood in my old car, and also on the old HU in the Fabia. FM is ok, not as sensitive as it was in the old car.

Is this a bad earth or something else? Where would you begin?

Did you fit an aerial amp?

The std headunit has an internal amp and on some headunits you need to fit one inline of the aerial cable. About

Hi,

To remove OEM H/U i just used two hacksaw blades (blunt and end pins broken off). You'll find removing couple of the blank switches above H/U will help get it out.

Facia adapter part number u'll need is:

And IF you attach the aerial amp, don't forget to connect its plus-wire to 12 volts switched as well.
