Twin Cigarette Lighter Adaptor

Featured Replies

Was thinking of getting one of these, for times when I'll need to charge my PDA and GPS receiver at the same time. I spotted one on eBay (LINK)

Seems a good price but are they safe to use? Does anyone else use one?

Steve

I've got something similar in my car to charge my iPod and phone. No problem.

You can get them in Rip-off-speed, at your local Halfrauds.

How much do they sell them for, can they beat the 4-quid eBay one, I mentioned above?

Maplins?

Maplins would work if you order more stuff, a lot of the time postage is prohibitive :)

The only thing to look out for is to stay below a certain current to avoid popping the fuse(s).

One other thought...there are 3 types of adaptor. The simplest is where the twin plugs are oriented in the same direction as the ciggylighter; then there are models where the plugs are oriented at 90 degrees; then there are models like this one where they are on the end of an extension wire.

Obvioulsy, this last one will need to be attached somewhere, else it's going to flap around in the cockpit. On the other hand, the fact that you can point it in any directon may be useful.

I think your best bet is to buy in a store, unless you can get by mail order free of postage. These things aren't expensive, and you could end up paying more for the post than the purchase price!

If you have a Furby then get one with a cable. You can then connect it at the socket and hide the wire running from the console to the socket, or at least route it neatly.

Probably safer than having two charge leads strung across your handbrake & gearstick too :)

Not if you know where there is a store nearby. It would only be a few quid (I paid
