Cracked vRS front bumper repair

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm new to the forum, and am currently looking at purchasing a 2007 Octavia vRS TDI. The car appears to be in brilliant condition, obviously carefully looked after by the owners, but has a cracked bumper as a result of a collision with a Pheasant.

Can anyone give any advice on how easy (and costly) this would be to repair? I'm looking at one of two scenarios, depending on relative costs and the quality of repair:

A ) Take it to a body shop and get it perfectly repaired. Probably require a new/used bumper, including stripped, primed and painted if it's not matching. Obviously the better, but much more expensive option.

B ) Repair the back of the crack with fibreglass/resin, and use a scratch repair kit/paint to cover it up at the front, or take it to a shop to get painted. How easy would this be to do? Given the location, the fix doesn't have to be perfect, as it's not highly visible.

Any opinions or advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Any decent bodyshop would be able to repair that so you would never know it would happened.

Probably easy enough to plastic weld then fibreglass strengthen on the rear and spray.

Take it to a bodyshop and get a quote would be my first port of call!

Spot on advice, make it a small bodyshop where cash is king

Absolutely, a lot of places I visit on a regular basis like cash for car related activities ;)

Also try locally based mobile smart repairers (not branded ones like chips away, dent devil etc) - I have had some good work done by them in the past for very reasonable prices. However, I have found if you have found the right bodyshop they can be just as cheap using the 'Do you like cash' line :)

Hi guys

Sorry for taking ages to reply to this, thanks for your advice. I didn't end up buying that particular car in the end, but am now a happy vRS owner.
