Insurance - That Time Of Year Again

Featured Replies

Renewal from Admiral came through and for 3 years running they want £479 despite me earning more NCB. Last year I renewed because everywhere else was the same but for it to be the same again this year took the p155. Did a quick Go Compare and with the same company it's £260 for 3 insured drivers, courtesy car, legal cover the lot. That I was really surprised by. Presumably it's just a case of ringing up and telling them this and they'll match it? Is there anyone else I could try?

Double check if using comparison sites, and use them all as they are all owned or get rewarded for driving customers to particular firms.

Comparison sites also make a lot of assumptions to get that killer price, but when scrutinised some cut the level of cover, ramp up excesses or imply restrictions.

I double checked it and it was better overall than what I have now and a lower excess. I'll be doing another quote with them separately and a few others.

Also worth trying the companies that do not appear on comparison sites, for example Aviva (Norwich Union) and Direct line. I've been with Aviva for several years now and find their prices competitive.

We rang admiral when we got ours yesterday and they knocked £30 off as 'we weren't happy'.

We then got a normal quote with them which was a couple of hundred quid cheaper so they matched that instead. Just need to try the small brokers etc. now.

I've done more phoning around this year as i've ever done as flux decided to put my insurance up another 20 quid like they did last year,

Been on a few comparison sites and had a few phone calls and got it down but there is some bartering to be had,

I've been looking into a traders policy this year as am a mechanic by trade and have been for 14 years and i do buy and sell odd car and i've carn't believe some of quotes i've had for that

Me and the wife were with admiral and our insurance went up this year. Despite us having 12 years ncb each! It was cheaper for us to have separate insurance. She's with LV and I'm now with Aviva. There's no loyalty when insurance comes up for renewal. I always shop around.

Try Sky Insurance - they cut my Admiral renewal quote in half this year on my MK2 Octavia VRS TFSI

I went thought Quidco this year and last.

Ended up with Axa last year at £220 (£25 cash back)

This year with Chaucer £160 (£25 cash back).

I tried all the insurance companies on here and none could beat Aviva.

Elephant (sister company of Admiral) knocked 15% of my renewal premium last year when I said I had an alternative quote (sourced on an aggregator site - I wouldn't actually have taken up the alternative quote as you had to do absolutely everything online).

I've been with Elephant since 2004 and the folk in Cardiff have always been totally sound - only issue I've ever had was when dealing with India over a change of vehicle back in 2005.

That quote for £260 I'm not allowed to access today and when you redo it it goes higher than my renewal. I'll try Aviva now

Edit: They won't insure me. Search continues

I recently renewed with Admiral. I've been with them since 2009 now. Very competitive I've always found.

My brother said the comparison site pulled that trick with him so he rung Admiral, said he didn't have a reference number but was quoted that price. They had a look and matched it. I'll try Sky insurance and see what happens. I add both my parents as they do drive the car now and again. That's the only odd thing on the policy.

same with admiral with us 1/2 price when we checked on the comparison site admiral did not care so cancelled both policies & insured elsewhere
