My Skodas

Featured Replies

Here's a couple of pics of my Skodas. The blue 120LSE sports a 1289 8 port engine with 28/36 DCD

and the black 136 has a Vauxhall 1600 GTE fitted and GAZ shocks all round. Since that pic was taken a set of 15 inch GKN alloys with 195/50 Yokos have been fitted.

The 120 is fully roadworthy though it's sorned and garaged at the moment whilst the 136 needs some tlc and was taken off the road five years ago after an mot fail. I can't believe it's five years since I last drove the old girl but as soon as I've finished my classic RangeRover she'll be getting the attention she deserves. There's a 16 valve twin cam engine sat in a corner of the workshop waiting to go in too.

Love the 120LSE - when you say it's got an 8 port engine, do you mean a 136 engine or a cast iron 8 port head on the 120 engine?

I like.. funny this has reminded of that website where you can check how many of a particular vehicle is still registered on the road, any who for old school skodas it says like 100 left in the uk, but these are probably all owned by like 10 people who have 10 each.

nice collection of cars you have there though..

Well it's a combo really. Block from a 136 and head from an MPI Felicia. I still have the Felicia block and a spare complete Favorit engine for back up. Couple of 8 port heads lying around somewhere too. I did have two spare five speed boxes but my lockup was broken into and that was that. I could do with a five speed swing axle box for the 120. I'm thinking about converting a five speed Porsche type box from a 136. Anyone done that?

I remember seeing these cars on skodarapid.com. Nice to know they're still going!

When I first bought the 120 I'd already decided to fit a bigger /better engine so the Vauxhall engine was duly fitted. Then I had to rebuild the engine in the Rapid and decided later on that the 120 was probably too good to butcher so out came the Vauxhall unit and the rebuilt 1289 went in. The Vauxhall engine went in the Rapid and that's how it's been ever since.

Where in lancs are you chops? These look great!

Great Harwood, just down the road from Accrington.

That's where my neighbours parents live....they always call it something else in a joking kind of way, but I can't for the life of me remember what!

When you said 8 port I thought you might have had a cast iron 8 port rather than a 136. What happened to the real 120 engine?

How close are they to being OTR again?

The Rapid needs work. Some welding to the sills and the boot floor. Ideally the front suspension needs to come out. The brake lines could do with replacing too. The 120 is ready for the road though I'm the process of refurbing a set of 15 inch wheels for her. She still has fitted what I believe are the original Dunlop tyres.

Forgot to say that when I pulled the engine out I left it outside. Completely forgot all about it. It had gone the following day probably weighed in by some unscrupulous member of our community.

I've never seen a cast iron eight port head, only the old five porters like the original engine had.

Snuffy Harrod ?

Snuffy Harrod is the one!! :)

Shame about the 120 engine.....I always think the 136 is a rattly sounding engine, although it is more powerful as standard and easier to tune.
