Hi all, new here, I have just picked up a 53 plate 1.4 Fabia TDI, it's in good nick but it runs rough as hell, sounds like it is not running on all cylinders, coolant is good, needs an oil change, but the car shakes, looked under bonnet and the engine is all over the place, although it looks well maintained.

What are the possible issues, I am thinking injectors?......

It could be the Dogbone Mounting that needs replacing.

 

To be sure it's running OK, I would fit new Air Filter, Fuel Filter and then, disconnect the battery for 30 mins, ENSURE ALL ELECTRICS are switched OFF and without touching any pedals etc, start up and leave to idle for 30 mins to re-set the ECU.

Thank you, air filter is brand new, as is fuel filter, all mounts are in near perfect condition, I will try the battery disconnect, but with Engine Check light I'm sure it's something more, I was hoping someone would be able to tell me that the symptoms are indeed those of a failed injector, at £100 + each from the dealers, I don't want to be guessing at the fault

You need it plugging into a VCDS reader to find the fault codes.

Yes, send the guy an email and ask if he can possibly scan your car, obviously for a few beers or a bottle of wine.

 Is it just running rough on tickover, i.e. does it smooth out as the revs increase, or is the roughness at all revs. Does it smoke at all.

At tick over the engine is all over the place, I suppose you could say as the revs increase it smooths out but how smooth can a three cylinder sound, there is no smoke whatsoever out the back.

 Not sure if you have seen another 1.4TDI running, may be worth as a comparison. Where abouts in Lancs are you, giving a town location may assist in someone offering a comparison.

I am in Blackburn, I am certain the way it is running is totally wrong, the engine shouldn't be rocking all over the engine bay and shaking the car, it's something not running right, rather than something loose, to me it seems to not be running on all cylinders hence asking if people know the symptoms of failed injectors or whether it could be something else

anyone nearby who can help me shed some light....please, it would be very much appreciated
