coolant loss after top end rebuild?

Featured Replies

Had my top end done about 2 weeks ago, I cleaned the car and done the usual checks. I noticed coolant level was at min, so topped it up. Looked again today 1 week later and its on min again. Any ideas what it could be guys ? Like tips on what to check please

I assume new headgasket and bolts were used when rebuilding the top end?

They were in deed buddy

I'd just check over all the coolant pipes then, remove and refit them with some grease etc...

Only a few places outside the head it could be leaking from. Possibly upset some other pipework along the way or knocked the rad.

Edit: did you bleed it through properly with the heaters on full temp etc?

I never done the top end buddy, a vag dealer done it mate. Someone else suggested about the bleeding, im going on a long run so when I reach my destination I will bleed it as see it anything happens then

Yeah im going to have to ring them monday :( im just going to bleed the system to double check theres no air in it guys. Cant see no possible leaks either

How long should I bleed it for guy?

At 'MIN' (Minimum) once coolant has cooled, can be fine if it is setting its own level.

So if filling to 'Max' & then its at 'MIN' after being run, up to heat & the coolant has cooled, do not panic.

If it is going below 'MIN',,and using/losing coolant,

then you do need to find out why.

Leave alone, let the sealed pressurised system settle and stop opening the cap and topping up IMO.

Do you have the correct Coolant in, correct Ration Antifreeze (which is also Summer Coolant/rust inhibitor) HOAT or OAT, ?

* & at the correct ratio if its a coolant that is mixed with H20 ?*
