To Chip or not to Chip!

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently replaced my 130bhp Passat with a Superb combi elegance 1.6 TDI. Whilst I love the car

, I miss the power of the 130bhp Passat. I was considering having the engine chipped or remapped but I am nervous about the implications e.g. Damage to engine, running gear etc. any advice?

I was under the impression that 'Chipped' and 'Remapped' were one and the same? A remap should see an increase in power/ perfomance/ torque and fuel economy. IIWY I'd look for somewhere local who uses Shark remaps. Stage 1, no mods required and no mechanical upgrades needed AFAIK.

'Chipped' refers to the old method of actually replacing a chip in the ECU to install the performance software.

This is now done by uploading the software onto to ECU, either via the OBD or bench flashing. Same end result just newer tech. :)
