Just been looking at the air intake on my vrs cr and noticed that the air scoop at the front has a gap at the back to let air straight through? Why is this? Surely it would draw in warm air from engine bay? Also if it was blocked up wouldn't more air then be forced through the filter and into the engine

its there for safety, If water is sucked in it can just drain away through the gap you are on about. Block it up or if it wasn't there and water got in it could damage the engine.

Ah right that makes sense. But if this is the case why isn't there a gap on the fabia vrs? The air scoop just gos straight onto the air pipe
