help needed warning symbol coming up on dash board

whilst on a normal run today the symbol come up on dash testing engine electronics, what would be cause of symbol coming up? how would this be rectified? can this light be reset using a diagnostic cable? the car is a 130 bhp l and k skoda Octavia estate 2003,grateful for any help,thanks.

Could be anything..

Get yourself a cheap scanner and scan for codes,stored on the ECU.

Ebay sells them for about £30

You cab get a simple bluetooth one from eBay for about £20, than download the Torque app and use your phone/tablet

Code readers are a waste of money as they don't recognise all the VAG fault codes.

If you're near Cardiff I can have a look with VCDS/Vagcom.

Look in the VCDS forum, there is a list people who have VCDS and could help you if they are nearby
