No Memory On New H.u.

Featured Replies

hi guys

Fitted a sony head unit and 10 disc changer yesterday, the wire for the cd changer was fun, 2hrs and lots of removed trim, still it was worth it. My problem is no memory of preset stations etc, on the h.u., is this a simple case of swapping ignition live and constant live? Also have heard horror stories about a 'K' wire? do I need to worry? and lastly I seem to pick up radio one ok but nothing else...is this due to the amplified aerial, and whats the solution? Any help appreciated.

Cheers Fram

p.s the cars a 2000 model slxi if it makes a difference?

Hi Fram,

I had to switch between the 4'th and 7'th pole on the ISO connector (which is swapping ignition live and constant live), and that solved the memory prob.

My head unit plays mp3, so I was spared installing a CD changer...

With regards to the amplified aerial I know that there are VW adapters available - should be sufficient info for your dealer.

K wire horror stories? Do tell... haven't heard about that - what is "K wire"?

Best regards,

Check out the explanation here.

Q.

you do need the loom adapter for all vw's or you risk servicing probs..

Correction to my last post: Forget about switching the specific poles I mentioned - might have mixed them up (according to Q's post) - just make sure you switch between the ignition current & the constant current.

By the way, got any good advice on how to disassemble the trim without damaging it? I want to install some rear speakers in my Fabia Combi... see my thread on the subject here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3516

Current sony Head units don't have anything connected to whatever wire the K-line is on , so you don't need the wiring adaptor to stay safe.

As for the memory loss , just swap the red and yellow power wires on the sony loom.

ditto on the alpines with the 4x60w amps...

Hi guys,

Thanks a lot, swapping wires no probs (I think it is 4 and 7), will try to live with out a power aerial if it is not doing any harm. Also the 'K' wire thing seems to be the dealers problem not mine...lol unless he trys to charge me for a broken tool......!!!

cheers Fram
