Possible Sticking Brake

Featured Replies

Not made a 'proper' assessment yet but are sticking calipers covered under warranty?

Thanks

Anything and everything is under warranty on a new car, just drive it in and explain the car is broken and they should sort it for you.  A sticking calliper will just be cleaned up and greased.

Do you wash your car a lot?

If you do, I would recommend going for a short drive afterwards to dry off the brakes and get a little heat back in there to prevent corrosion.

Front or back calipers feeling sticky, is there any heat around the wheel centres.?

Rear can be sticky because or the hand brake cable.

Skoda Dealership services are only look at Brakes, visual inspection,

if you want maintenance, you need to do it or ask for and pay for it.

So how old a car, and how many miles on it,??

faulty will be warranty, and needs a bit of attention and freeing off, lubrication,

might be done with or without charge at service time if you ask.

Skoda now show the Minor & Major Services as including a 'Road Test'.

Thanks for the responses.

Car is just over two years old. Car washed once a week and used regularly with no issues until now.

I did have a quick look and there only seems to be surface rust (not worn off with braking) i.e. I could wipe it off with my finger so if faulty then it's very recent.

Will keep an eye on it and call a dealer accordingly.

If the brakes have not had pads changed or any kind of Servicing done on them,

they maybe just need the use of some 'Brake Cleaner', removed the pads, use the correct grease on the sliders, some copper slip on the rear of the pads, just some TLC.

Copper Sip on the wheel inner centres, nuts will be checked then to see they are not seized in case of need to do a wheel change at the roadside.

Garages services these days are just basically Oil & Filter changes, top up fluids and visual inspection and report.

Maintenance is not Automatically done, it needs paying for.

That is where a good Independent might actually 'Do a Service; or Pre Winter Check & Servicing. ie Wheels Off.
