Welcome :)

First things first since you haven't passed yet. Any major modifications underneath the bonnet or outside the vehicle must be declared to your insurance so be sure to check before you stick it on :)

Nice cars, I use to have one before my monte and can certainly say I had my monies out of it. Had it for 3 years and a part from the MOT advisories it was solid, started first time with no problems.

Be sure to get it services every year and it will last you a lifetime.

Now to the questions you asked, the only real way to get some umph out of it would be to shed some weight, maybe take the AC out, spare wheel and stuff like that. You could stick a custom air cone on it but realistically it won't make a difference.

Welcome.

We've got a 1.4 mpi as well. 110k miles and 10 years old. Just starting to break up a bit but mostly electrical.

Great starter cars, but I'd forget any power mods in it and save your money for a Vrs Fabia once you've passed your test and insurance premiums have come down.
