Rear Arch (flaking) advice.. (Picture Inside)

Featured Replies

As few of you may know was planning on purchasing a Fabia VRS soon, I got the dealer to send me a pic of the O/S Rear Arch as the picture didnt look that good.. it looked like tar or a black mark

He said this will be repaired before the sale of the vehcile

Any advice.. would this be easy to fix or would it be pretty expensive?

Thanks

Depends how bad the rust is. A mate if mine has a 04 golf and it has rust on two wheel arches and the boot. I don't think VW are too good at the rust proofing. I seen loads of 03-05 seats, audi,VW and skodas with rusty arches.

He said the repair will be carried out once I leave a depsoit (£100)....

The repair shouldn't cost you anything, Skoda has a 12 year body protection warranty that covers paint bubbling and rust..

This happened to mine! The paint was literally peeling off, I **** the bed and booked into body shop. £330 later and it's still sweet as a nut.

You guys have convinced me :) he said that it will be taken car of anyway I just hope the bodyshop he uses do a good job at blending it

Plenty to choose from, I'd personally hold our for a tidier one

I couldn't agree more. There are plenty out there & I'd walk away from it. Several years ago, I had a Mazda 6 which rusted in the same place. It was a common problem with them.

I had the rust treated and the bodywork re sprayed by a reputable bodyshop, but after a year the rust was back. Once you've got rust, you're fighting a losing battle.

Good luck.

Once rust turns up in these areas it is very difficult to eradicate 100% successfully (repairs lasting more than 1-2 years before re-emerging).  It's a pretty harsh environment in that area. with dirt water and debris being thrown at it from all of the roadwheels.  I would probably wait until something 'better looking' turns up - unless you are only going to use it for a couple of years and then dispose of it.

Good luck claiming the corrosion warranty on that.

Corrosion come from the inside, rust from the outside. If there is any chance it could have been caused by stone chips then they won't pay out.
