Inexpensive OBD2 diagnostic reader

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I have done a search here and dont find any conclusive answer to a Inexpensive OBD2 diagnostic reader that work in my 2002 Octavia.

I know there is Vag Com but I dont want to spend US$299.oo

I just want something that I can install in my laptop and with the cable connect it to the OBD port to check the faults in my car without expending a lot.

Do anybody here has bought a Inexpensive OBD2 diagnostic reader that really work?

Can you share your brand/model and experiences?

Thank you

Isaac

I have Torque Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en_GB), which I use with a generic bluetooth OBDII dongle (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-Engine-READER/dp/B004KL0I9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385940098&sr=8-1&keywords=obd2).

I also have one of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-MS300-MaxiScan/dp/B001LHVOVK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1385940146&sr=8-7&keywords=obd2), which seems to work well (relative to the cost).

Both work well with my 2002 Octavia 4x4 and 2012 Yeti TDi.

Hey Pinkpanther,

Does the ELM 327 has more features than the Autel MS 300? Any advise which is better?

Can you erase codes or the Check Engine light with the ELM 327?

What software you are using with the ELM 327?

THX,

Isaac

Just get vcds lite

I was checking: http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/

Connect an appropriate interface between the computer and the car.  Ross-Tech does not supply interfaces for VCDS-Lite.   VCDS-Lite works with some of our old interfaces from many years ago, as well as many 3rd-party interfaces.

Can you guys tell me what 3rd Party Interface will work with VCDS-Lite?

I have a 2002 Skoda Octavia 1.8T L&K Engine Code AGU (TMBAL41U928549849)

THX,

Isaac

OK, I just order this inexpensive KKL 409.01 OBD 2 from e-bay

I found this tutorial how to set up this OBD Cable to work with the VCDS Lite

If you guys have any other recommendation on the set up, please let me know

Isaac

Hi Isaac

I use the Android Torque app with the ELM 327 bluetooth dongle - there is a free version, or a more fully featured paid for (pro) version.

Both clear EML's etc.
