chattering relay

IIRC, relay 202 is the glowplug relay. For up to 3 minutes after startup the relay will click off as the engine RPM rises above 2500rpm and will click back on as the RPM drops below 2500rpm. Have you tried replacing it?

Moved to Superb mk1 forum, which is more suitable than "site and forum issues"  ;)

it has only just started doing this tried swapping the relay but it made no difference going to try a voltage regulator

The problem is almost certainly broken soldered joints inside the relay due to thermal fatigue. Open the relay case and re-solder the joints, or replace the relay if you cannot do this. Using a relay in this condition will cause further damage to other components.

When are the Germans going to learn that solder fatigue is a serious failure which is easily overcome by careful design - as the Japanese well know? VAG products have been cursed with this type of failure for decades.
