Problem with Columbus system

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 Superb and have recently suffered a 'crash' with the system.  I've managed to reinstall the firmware and the original V3 SatNav software.  After doing this I have noticed a few changes.  I can no longer play CDs as the option is blacked out.  I've also lost POI.  My local Skoda dealer lent me a software disc to upgrade to V7 to give me 7 digit postcodes which this has done.  It still however has not fixed the CD or POI issue.

In addition to this I have downloaded the up to date mapping to my laptop (V9 I believe)  from Skoda's site (takes about 11 hours).  Then I've put it onto an SD card with a view to updating the maps further however the instructions for loading state that you insert the card, select menu, Setup, version information and then update software.  For some reason I get as far as version information and then there is no option to update the software.

Please can anyone help with the CD, POI and missing update option?

I'll move you this to the relevant section

The Introduce yourself, is just for saying hello

I can't help with the CD playback issue but someone will no doubt be along soon who might.  The map update on the Skoda website is for new Columbus systems currently only installed in the new Octavia and not suitable for the version in the Superb.  There isn't an official free map update for the Superb but plenty of reliable unofficial versions.

There are some really knowledgeable people reading these forums but at the moment there are more questions than answers.

You say you re-installed the firmware so how did you know what level you had and where did you get the firmware to install?

Can you supply some details about the vintage of the Columbus - ideally by pressing 'Setup' button for about 8 seconds and then choosing 'Version Information'.

If that is not currently possible then there is a paper label on the side of the unit but you have to remove the decal and pull the unit out a little to see it.

It may be that there is a much newer level of firmware that you could install but exact details would be needed to make a recommendation.

You're correct that v9 maps (7918) for Western Europe are (or were) the latest but v10 (8048) are just becoming available (downloadable if you search around).

As artichoke273 says the maps on the Skoda site are only for the newer 'MIB' version of the Columbus and are not at all suitable for older versions.

Also, older Columbus's can only be updated using DVDs, not SDs or SDHCs.
