NEWBIE WANTS ADVICE BUYING MK 1

Featured Replies

I am going to look at a 2001/Y fabia described as immaculate with 39000 genuine miles the asking price is £3000.

I know all the usual things to look for but would like advice with any problems peculiar to fabias also could anyone tell me how much i should offer for it it is a 1.9tdi

Seems like quite a reasonable price, unless its had some real issues in its early life....

What spec is it may I ask? Very good if its an elegance

123K miles, 1.9TDi Elegance here and nothing needed so far apart from the normal consumables and a new rear door lock. Front tyre wear can be a tad excessive TBH but that's more down to the big heavy lump under the bonnet. Console bushes wear out a bit quickly aswell, go for polybushes if they need replacing. If the cam belt and water pump haven't been changed recently get them done, esp the cam belt as they degrade over time. Brake fluid change would be advisable too if it's never been done. All in all they are a good little car and the engines are bullet proof. Elegance spec has toasty warm heated front seats, ideal around now :)

Thanks for replies so far it is elegance spec. Will try to get the cambelt done before buying if the car is ok

I'd get them to knock the price of a cambelt replacement (plus the water pump, tensioner etc) off the price of the car, circa £260 Inc parts, labour and vat at a specialist, that way you KNOW it's been done rather being told it's been done
